Three Days Post-Surgery

Max had his front right leg amputated on Thursday morning, and it is now Sunday. He came home mid morning on Friday. His soaker catheter came out on Saturday night and he is starting to be able to stand a bit more and we hope that he will be able to walk soon.  Right now, we have to use a wagon for transport to where he potties, but he wagon broke this morning : (

Max is in pretty good spirits.  Except for a rough first night, he doesn’t show that he is in pain.  He is a bit more vocal than usual, but I think he also just wants us to lay on the floor and pet him all of the time.

Max has pretty bad arthritis in his three remaining legs, so he may not be like the other tripawds who go back to walking relatively normal quickly. I think his will be a longer journey to walking, unfortunately.  We have a Ginger Lead, some big towels, and a Ruffwear doubleback harness on the way. Hopefully that will get here within the next 5 days or so.

I’ll post more about his surgery and the first day post-op later.  This is Max! He is almost 12 years old, loves belly rubs, going to the coast, playing in the water, treats, and is the happiest dog ever.  We opted to move straight to amputation and not wait for biopsy, so we are waiting on pathology from leg to know exactly what his diagnosis is. He likely has osteosarcoma.
